01 / Procurement guide

Why the named destination matters

A delivery term needs a named place, not just three letters. Your quotation should identify the receiving address or other agreed delivery point and explain the transport scope. For a beverage pallet order, also state unloading facilities, appointment requirements and access restrictions. These details help both parties understand the practical delivery arrangement.

02 / Procurement guide

DAP: agree who handles destination import

Under DAP, the seller arranges delivery to the named place. Where import applies, import clearance and associated import charges fall to the buyer. Confirm the responsible party and any service arrangements in the written offer. Unloading should be discussed separately; do not assume the freight vehicle includes every form of unloading assistance.

03 / Procurement guide

DDP: confirm the seller’s import scope

Under DDP, the seller takes responsibility for import clearance and duties where applicable. This can simplify a buyer’s commercial brief, but the offer still needs to identify the named place and agreed destination-charge scope. Make sure the parties can perform the responsibilities attached to the term for the actual destination.

04 / Procurement guide

Compare quotations on the same basis

A product price and a delivered quotation are different comparison points. Put the SKU, quantity, named delivery place, freight scope and responsibility for destination charges alongside each offer. Ask about exclusions instead of assuming the lower headline price represents the lower complete cost.

05 / Procurement guide

Do not substitute FOB or CIF for road delivery

FOB and CIF are terms for sea and inland-waterway shipments with named ports. They should not be presented as equivalent to DAP or DDP delivery to a warehouse. For container or multimodal arrangements, the transport structure needs to be assessed before a term is selected. Discuss the suitable arrangement rather than choosing solely from an abbreviation.

06 / Procurement guide

Request the arrangement for your order

WOOVE discusses DDP and DAP for European and UK orders, with dispatch from Germany. Suitable international sea-shipment enquiries can also discuss FOB or CIF with named ports. Send the products, pallet quantities and exact destination, then review the accepted offer before confirming the shipment.
